I wanted a burger, but not in a bun. I’m not really sure why, I guess I was just craving something different. And I really wanted a Big Mac (yep, I did). But I would never order one. It’s just too many calories. So I sort of created this bunless-burger-Big-Mac-thing to satisfy my cravings.
I love fillo dough and I wanted this to feel like an appetizer. So here you have it, Cheeseburger Fillo Squares with Copycat Big Mac Sauce. And the copycat sauce is a copy of the copycat recipe…had to do it my way…with my own ingredients. I think it’s better than the original. But you can decide for yourself.
At first I was a little worried about doing this recipe and baking lettuce in the oven, but it turned out great. It’s just one of those dishes you have to serve right away. You cannot let it sit and get cold etc. It’s just not the same.

The idea is to build up the fillo dough with cheese between the layers. The American cheese addition at the end makes it really taste like a Big Mac. Other fancy cheese did not have the same effect.

I used a squeeze bottle to drizzle on the Big Mac Sauce before cutting it into squares with a pizza cutter.

The perfect Super Bowl snack!

I am so confused … in the ingredients you list shredded Cheddar cheese … in the instructions you mention Parmesan. Which is it? Also in the ingredients and the picture, you have meat. But in the instructions, we simply heat olive oil until it is done … shoudn’t be the meat be added to the oil somewhere in that area?
Oh, well. I’ll do it with Cheddar, not Parmesan, and I will cook the meat in the olive oil.

And this is why I shouldn’t write late at night! Fixed…thanks for noticing.

These are so fun, Cathy! And the copy-cat Mcdonald’s sauce is perfect….my mom always made her own version when I was growing up!

Wow. I love phyloo and one of the reasons is because of how it always has all that butter between the layers. You take it one step further and add CHEESE. These are way better than a Big Mac.

This looks more like a pizza to me. Nevertheless, it still looks mouth-watering. And I love the copycat big mac sauce you have.

Yep, whatever you call it…it’s good.

I am a Big Mac lover, but I haven’t had one in years. When I was a teenager (and oblivious to fat grams and calories) a Big Mac and an order of fries was my favorite meal at MD’s. The only thing I would order from MD’s these days is a salad, but oh how I miss the Big Mac! I think this looks like a great, low-carb way to get your Big Mac fix! I agree that it would be great to serve during the Superbowl, too!

Served these tonight for a family get together and I couldn’t keep up!! I’d put one tray out, while putting sauce on & cutting another and by the time the new tray got to the counter, the first tray was gone! This one is a little labor intensive if you want to take it somewhere, but oh so worth it! I made three trays, used about the same amount of ingredients, but extra dough (15 sheets total) and all three sheets were gone within 15 minutes!! We had 19 people. Great idea Cathy!!! Thanks for sharing! Love your recipes!

It’s good they were eaten fast..it’s one of those that shouldn’t sit around! Glad you enjoyed.
